Message from the CAFNR Alumni President

CAFNR Alumni, During this season of gratitude, I wanted to send a note of thanks to CAFNR’s alumni and friends. This past year our alumni board has worked diligently to maintain a focus on our strategic plan mission: “Enhancing lives at CAFNR and the communities it serves, while enabling CAFNR alumni to impact the world around them.” We faced many obstacles during this past year and our alumni rose to the challenge.

Thank you for your continued support of our CAFNR fundraising and alumni events. Your support improves student development through distribution of scholarships and grants to student organizations. This year we will have the opportunity to award over $25,000 in student organizational grants and provide 30 scholarships valued at $60,000. Thank you. In April of 1994, a group of CAFNR alumni board members set out to establish an endowment within our organization that would provide a solid foundation of support for CAFNR students for the long term. I am excited to announce that on November 6, 2021, our latest contribution to the endowment grew our balance to $2 million! This is a significant milestone for the CAFNR Alumni Association, and your support was essential. We are grateful to know we can always count on you. As you enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with family, friends and loved ones, take time to cherish the good things you have in your life. Be thankful for the opportunities that have been provided and look forward to what is ahead. It’s a great honor and privilege to serve as President of your CAFNR Alumni Association and represent the best alumni organization at the University of Missouri. Your support and dedication to the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources sets a standard across our great university. Thank you. All the best,

Charles Eugene Campbell BS Agriculture '52 (Nov. 9, 1931 - Oct. 12, 2021) was born the son of John Clark Alexander Campbell and Jewell Tipton Campbell on November 9, 1931 in Fristoe, MO. He grew up on the family’s dairy farm, and though they didn’t have much, the family made ice cream every week – solidifying early a love language Charles shared with others throughout his life. Charles graduated from Warsaw High School at just 16, and through a $75 Sears-Roebuck scholarship was able to attend the University of Missouri. In Columbia, he lived rent‐free in an unheated outbuilding on a chicken farm (on land that is now a University parking lot). He gathered eggs in the chicken coop for 30 cents an hour. Every week, he sent his laundry and a letter home to his mother. Read more
