Dear Alumni and Friends, Welcome to the first newsletter from the Division of Food, Nutrition & Exercise Sciences (FNES). The division is an integration of the Food Science (FS) program and the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (NEP) from the former College of Human Environmental Sciences (HES). FNES replaces the former Division of Food Systems & Bioengineering as one of the six divisions in the College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources (CAFNR). The NEP department continues to be jointly supported by CAFNR and the School of Medicine (SoM). The transition officially took place on July 1, 2021. As you will see from this newsletter, the new division was formed at the nexus of food and health to capitalize on the strengths in agriculture and medicine at the University of Missouri. The division houses and supports all the degree programs from FS and NEP, which include BS, MS and PhD in Food Science; BS, MS, and PhD in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology; a combined BS+MS program in Dietetics; and several certificates and minor programs. There are approximately 300 undergraduate students and about 70 graduate students in the degree programs. The realignment will enhance the education programs and student successes by providing students with learning opportunities in closely related disciplines, strong student mentoring with an expanded career horizon, and enhanced teaching efficiency and effectiveness.
