Message from the Director

Dear alumni and friends of the Honors College,

I welcome this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you.  My name is Catherine Rymph and I first came to MU 20 years ago as a faculty member in the Department of History. I have enjoyed my many years of teaching and publishing in the field of twentieth century US History.  Since August 2021 it has been my privilege to direct the MU Honors College.

The MU Honors College promotes excellence at MU by attracting and retaining exceptional students, enriching the teaching and research experiences of MU Honors faculty, and sponsoring and coordinating programs that serve the broader campus community.

The past year has been a busy and exciting one for all of us in Lowry Hall. In addition to shifting back to in-person classes and other programming, we’ve been hiring new faculty and staff and have made investments in curriculum, study abroad programs, and research opportunities for our students.

This newsletter will give you a small taste of what we’ve been up to. We look forward to keeping you updated as we roll out more initiatives in the fall.

Often students in the Honors College choose to have research placements with faculty, and it is these valuable experiences that prepare them for future careers and advanced opportunities. In the case of Andrew Mitchell, who won the highly competitive NSF fellowship, it prepares them for graduate school and research. Read more about Mitchell, the NSF, and his future plans here
