Mizzou Grad News

A MU student kneels down to make notes about plants growing in an MU greenhouse.

Welcome to the March issue of Mizzou Grad News.

I hope you are celebrating Women’s History Month and honoring all who identify as women who have made a difference in your life, including in your disciplines and fields of study. Remember to cite a woman! There is still time before month’s end to take advantage of some of the great programming on campus in recognition of Women’s History.

Mark your calendars for April 3-7; we will recognize Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week! We have several activities and events during the week to honor you! This nationally recognized week celebrates the value and impact graduate student contributions make to the mission of Mizzou. The week is also an opportunity to raise awareness of graduate students' efforts in teaching, scholarship, service, and outreach.

For graduate student parents interested in doing a summer internship, be on the lookout for details from the Graduate School to apply for up to $2000 to offset childcare expenses during the internship. Although unpaid internships may be credit-bearing and fulfill a requirement for some degree programs, it is difficult for many graduate student-parents to complete an internship (paid or unpaid) without additional financial assistance to cover childcare costs. By providing financial assistance and career coaching, we hope to make it easier for graduate student-parents to participate in internships that enhance skill development and network building.

Finally, I want to congratulate the 18 graduate and professional students recently recognized with the Mizzou 18 Award. This award recognizes students’ outstanding research, leadership with undergraduate students, and collaboration with faculty. The Mizzou 18 Award is just one way our community recognizes graduate education—such recognition fosters a community that celebrates excellence.

Until next month,

jeni hart, PhD

dean of the graduate school

vice provost for graduate studies

The Summer 2023 class will meet via Zoom from 3:00-5:00 pm on Wednesdays. Please email Dr. Christy Goldsmith (GoldsmithC@missouri.edu) with questions or to obtain a permission number to enroll.
